Hi,

I thought we were now stable, but since then I have had to add more users and cannot get 100% of them connected. Leaving aside the remote users who do not get their logon accepted at all, we have 5 users in house who get one of the two following messages: -
"You are not logged into a domain (3001B) Signatures from default settings, no group or individual settings"
"The root LDAP://DC=phase-office,DC=local cannot be contacted. Please make sure it is correct (3001A). Signatures"
I have tried adding a server LDAP string in the data source manager, but this leads to a failure for all users. The workstations are clearly on the network and have access to their emails from the exchange server. I believe I have updated the MDAC settings etc, but can double check this. Possibly a remoinder opf the various updates that need to be run would help me here to ensure I haven't missed one of them.
Most users are running XP Pro although there is 1 Windows 2000 user still (who has never been able to get her signature).

Thanks for your help
Phil

If the default root string is not correct, please change it in Edit -> Advanced Technical Settings.

Not sure that being able to receive Exchange emails validates that they are actually logged on to your domain.

Please have user log on to a PC where the user is OK. If this works, I would troubleshoot the PC.

Don't know if this is much help to you ...

mornig Jesper,

Thanks for the information, I will check this. The computers themselves are registered on the server and file and print works OK through the server. It could be down to the set of updates needed to get emailsignature to run.

With XP there are a few things to do and I am not sure these have all been run. If you have a document you can point me at theat has them all listed, I can check through (my notes appear to be scattered onto different workstations).

Thanks
Phil

The only issue that is PC related, is corrupt MDAC component when other users are OK.

Please eliminate my concern by having user logon to a PC which is OK in Diagnostics and report back.
If Sign.exe recognizes user on one PC but on the other, the conclusion is clear ... do you agree?

These are the general troubleshooting steps.

Thanks Jesper,

I will do this as soon as I can, but I am working off site and cannot get a log on to another computer remotely for the time being. I might have to go to site on Monday instead and will report back as soon as I have been able to do this. Will also re-install the MDAC

I think you are right about the issue being with the workstation not the server. My concern is that so many standard workstations seem to exhibit/cause this sort of error. when thay are just running XP Pro. We have a 17 user licence now and 4 users are not getting logged in.

Hi Jesper,
I've tried to log the user in on another workstation that runs another user OK. No signature appears. Equally if I log onto the new users workstation as the user or administrator, I cannot get the signature.
I have loaded .net and MDAC again onto the workstation.

There seems to be a problem with the trust relationship which I am checking out. Could this be having an effect?

Could you please post the log file here?

WORKAROUND
Alternatively, you can use Access DB data source where users are not validated against your AD. With 17 users, this is very easy to accomplish.

H Jesper,
I've run two logins from the same workstation. One user logs in without a problem. The other user fails with a 3001 error in Emailsignature.

As the same PC is involved on this, I believe it eliminates the PC as the problem. Let me know what you think?

Phil

Can I see the logon script you execute for Karen and Administrator?

Please run SET command line for Karen and post result here.

Exclamation Please save embedded images on same share as your settings DB (i.e. \\phaserve\netSignature\)

\\PHASERVE\Clients\Setup\setup.exe /s PHASERVE
start \\phaserve\NETLOGON\sign.exe Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\\phaserve\netSignature\settings.mdb

They both use the same script

Please run SET command line for Karen and post result here.

Nothing to do with this error, but must be fixed:

Exclamation Please remove the first line in your script. This is correct:

Thank you Jesper,

The first line of the script is the SBS client log in. Are you saying we should run two separate scripts or leave out the client log in?

I am not familiar with SBS, and how your clients logon, but generally when troubleshooting, you need to go back to where it works manually, and then automate from there (step-by-step).
And test between each step.

I always test eMailSignature script manually and only when OK in Diagnostics, I add it to existing logon script.

In your case:
  1. Have Karen logon (manually). Remove your first line if necessary.
  2. Run eMailSignature.bat manually (with only the above one line). Is Diagnostics OK?
  3. Run SET command line logged in as Karen (this is now the 3rd time I ask you to run it ... Surprised ) Check with your Advanced Technical Settings.

I guess my best advise (in your case) is to use another data source as described in the WORKAROUND earlier.
The only issues I have seen with SBS is when clients try and install Cockpit on the Server - that won't work.

I wasn't aware that you couldn't run Cockpit on the SBS server! This means that a user's workstation has to be on permanently. Or we have a second server purely for the signatures.

If I move it to a workstation what process should I follow to transfer the data and licence information?

I'll do this first and test it before running the set command or using the workaround

This is how it works.

No installation on servers/clients.
Everything is in your settings DB.
Simply connect to your settings DB when Cockpit is installed on PC:

File -> Settings Database, paste connection string:
Code:
\\phaserve\netSignature\settings.mdb
