Please can you assist me, I have a strange message from trying to deploy signature to one of our group. Message report below:

It appears to be only affecting the one user, same message in status monitor each time: There do not appear to be any characters out of place for this user in AD.

Has anyone had or seen this error before?

Hi Robert,

It would seem that you have some special characters in a signature that is being deployed to this specific user. Please can you ensure that none of your signatures have and special characters in them, only normal characters. Spaces are allowed.
If this error still occurs, or you do not have any existing signatures with special characters, this could be an old signature that you may have deleated and just needs wiping from the settings database. Let me know if this is the case and I will help you to remove it.

Thank you Dave for your quick response:

I have modified the fields for all the test users in Active directory with the same information and cannot see any invalid characters for this particular user. The preview of the signature in the cockpit looks fine also and any changes I make seem to show instantly.
Looking in the status window of the cockpit shows staus 2 if this denotes anything!

Please delete RTF and TXT templates and then try again.

Then create your RTF and TXT formats again ...

Do I do the deletion from within cockpit? If so when I try to delete them they report an error and won't delete!

Yes, you delete from within your Cockpit.

Try this ...
click signature,
click RTF format (button below)
click Delete RTF (if this is causing the error, the enter code view and delete everything, then save)

Do the same for TXT format.

Hi Jesper

I am unable to delete the RTF and TXT even from the code view. The code disappears but when I click RTF it returns again.. There is also a red cross over both Rich text and Plain text icons and I get an error message when I try to show the RTF and a similar one for TXT.

Your installation is not working correct and you might as well upgrade to v.5 ... I will forward the license key you need.

Open Cockpit and copy the connection string to your settings database and save it in a text file.
Uninstall eMailSignature from Windows Control Panel.
Download and install latest version.
Cancel the setup wizard which automatically starts after the installation.
Connect to existing settings DB (File -> Settings Database, paste the connection string you just saved).
Click 'Test' and then ‘Save’ and you are now connected to your settings database and you will have all signatures, license key, Outlook settings etc.
You also need to upgrade sign.exe. Please replace the existing sign.exe with the new one from your installation folder (usually found in c:\program files\office add-on\eMailSignature\sign.exe). In Help -> Diagnostics you can right click a user and select 'view log file' -> Check version to validate Cockpit.exe and Sign.exe versions.

I am receiving the same error message on one particular user (myself). All other users seem to be receiving signatures fine. checked all of the steps above but still seem to get the error.

Any other ideas?

Strange it only happens to one user. Usually that indicates MDAC issue on one PC.

Do you get same error logging on as you - on another PC?
Are you by any change on Vista OS (as the only one)?

Please please ZIP and forward your settings.mdb to me and I will test on version 5 (and Windows XP).

Yes i have tried it on another vista computer with the same result. All other Vista computers on the network have no issue and are working fine.

I have upgraded to 5.0 with no change, also recreated settings database from scratch and recreated signatures.

Still getting the same error with this one user.

I have logged into another vista machine with my login and signatures get applied ok. It seems to be an issue with my current machine only suddenly.

Unfortunately your instructions on repairing MDAC have no relevance to a Vista machine.
