|
|
We are in the process of re-implentation from a new server with the new version (we had 4.9.2 installed previously) and are finding some issues that we did not notice before - we are changing the way we use the software...
What we want to do: Allow signatures pushed with eMailSig to be permanently editted by the end user (ie - remove/add cell phone entries as desired)
What is happening: Once changes are made and sign.exe is run, existing signatures (originally pushed by eMailSig) are overwritten with the original signature from eMailSig, thus causing the changes to be removed.
I have an idea of a way around this but would like your input prior to going down this road (login scripts) in case there is an easier, more obvious solution.
thank you and i look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for your response Jesper.
I actually have setup all of those options already to no avail. The problem isn't with them changing the signature to a different one. The problem is when they modify (as described below), the changes are lost the next time sign.exe runs.
The users need to be able to edit the signature block to input any extra information they may deem necessary. For instance, some users may desire their cell phone to be entered while others do not. I know that I can control this by editing AD, but this is not acceptable as our users use AD via Exchange OAB to get contact information.
How do I allow users to change their eMailSignature signature content after the signatures have been deployed without overwriting those changes the next time sign.exe is run?
I know I can enable write protection, but that defeats the purpose as then the users wouldn't be able to change anything to begin with. If there isn't a way, that's fine - I just need to know that.
Thank you!

By design (since version 1 back in 2004), Sign.exe will pull email signatures from the settings DB and overwrite the email signatures on the clients when executed.
RESOLUTIONS
- Add mobile number to any empty field in your Active Directory. Besides the standard fields (where you might use all for your Office Address Book), I am sure that one of the Custom Attributes fields are empty. Pick one empty field and make it conditional. Then enter mobile number for all those users that want it shown - and leave it empty for all those users that don't.
Alternatives:
- If your users edit their default or reply/forward, you can select 'Silent' deployment after first run, and the user changes are not overwritten.
- Only execute Sign.exe once.
Will any one work for you? _________________ </Jesper> | Test Email Signature | Showcase | |

As previously stated, none of these options will work. I actually received a response from one of your colleagues via email and found that it is a limitation of your software and that the resolution i had already come to is the only viable solution for my company (IF/THEN statements with a login script and dummy file)
thanks for your assistance Jesper.
