What are the different email formats? Recommendation?
We recommend HTML email format
We do not recommend targeting the lowest common denominator by sending Plain Text email. You simply don’t do stuff for the sake of 0,1% of recipients if it in some way compromises the other 99,9%.
- HTML
HTML lets you use HTML formatting and you can display images (e.g. your corporate brands) according to your corporate identity.
Today, most people with email can receive HTML-formatted messages fine (although some prefer plain text for purity's sake).
- Plain Text
Plain Text sends emails without text formatting and you cannot display pictures (e.g. your corporate brands). This ensures maximum compatibility and everybody who has an email account will be able to read your message.
- Rich Text
Rich Text is Outlook and Notes proprietary message format. They are not compatible!
In Outlook you must use rich text format to send meeting requests or tasks. Rich text is recommended only for these occasions and when you can be sure the recipient also uses Outlook because no other email client will properly display messages in rich text format.
There is no existence of Rich Text format in Outlook Web Access (OWA).
