What are the pros and cons using Word as email editor?
In Microsoft Outlook 2000, XP and 2003, you can change the email editor between Outlook editor and Word editor.
The default in Outlook 2000: Outlook editor.
The default in Outlook XP: Outlook editor.
The default in Outlook 2003: Word editor.
Cons using Word as editor
- Some designs will not look OK in recipients inboxes as the HTML is malformed and NOT following web standards (i.e. W3C).
The effect depends on your HTML design and if the recipients uses Outlook with Word as editor.
- You cannot use embedded images without having red X issues (these are Outlook bugs and not related to eMailSignature).
Pros using Word as editor
- You can use automatic spelling feature (Only some users will accept Outlook standard that checks emails before sending).
- You can right click and select another signature.
The default in Outlook 2007: Word editor. Word editor cannot be removed. No image issues reported.
The default in Outlook 2010: Word editor. Word editor cannot be removed. No image issues reported.
If you have Outlook 2003 clients and Allow users to select Words as Editor - we recommend that you test your design on all major email clients:
(Word as editor will not be set automatically for all users, but individual user preferences will not be removed when this setting is ticked)
